Cubs second baseman Javier Baez was named to his first All-Star game as the starting second baseman during an ESPN announcement show on Sunday night.

Baez had a video message to all the Cubs fans that helped him make the prestigious All-Star team.

"Hey there. This is Javy Baez," he said. "I really excited to be named to the All-Star game. Thank you to all the fans that voted for me."

Baez was asked if he would like to compete in the home run derby contest.

"If I got the opportunity, I would probably do it because it's my first All-Star Game," Baez said via 670 The Score. "We'll see. We'll see. I haven't heard anything about it, but sure, I'd love to."

For the season, he is batting .294 with 17 homers, .893 OPS, and 65 RBI (2nd in the NL).
