WATCH: Lester goes yard for second career home run

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — With his first home run of the season and second home run of his career, Chicago Cubs ace pitcher Jon Lester blasted a three-run shot to center field in the second inning against the Minnesota Twins.

Finishing off a hard-fought at-bat with a dinger, Lester took Twins starter Lance Lynn deep on a seventh-pitch fastball over the middle. Traveling 406 feet with an exit velocity of 103 miles per hour, Lester's three-run homer came on a full count.

Despite the Cubs having men on first and second base with just one out at the time of Lester's at-bat, Lester did not bunt, instead opting to showcase his hitting prowess that has come to fruition over the course of his Cubs tenure. Needless to say, that decision paid off, with the Cubs taking an early 3-1 lead because of it.
