WATCH: Maddon fumes after blowout loss

CHICAGO — Failing to eclipse the three-run mark for the eighth straight game, the Chicago Cubs (16-12) were destroyed by the Colorado Rockies (17-15) 11-2 in the series finale at Wrigley Field.

Getting outhit by 11, the Cubs were impotent on both ends, with starting pitcher Yu Darvish suffering through yet another woeful outing.

After the game, Cubs skipper Joe Maddon was not pleased, telling reporters, "That game belongs in Lake Michigan with some cement shoes tied around it. That was awful. Throw it away. I'm going to throw it out of my '85 Oldsmobile window, driving back down Lake Shore Drive. That was awful."

Maddon knows that the squad will eventually start cranking out the runs and he is happy with the wins during this tough stretch offensively.

"Every team goes through it," Maddon said. "The bright spot is that normally when you go through this, you don't win five out of seven. When you go through this, you normally lose.

"We didn't play good today. To dissect it more than that, it's difficult. I think every guy in that (clubhouse) would concede we had a bad day."

Having now dropped two straight games after winning five in a row, the Cubs will aim to rebound at the St. Louis Cardinals (17-12) this weekend. As of now, the North Siders trail the first-place Redbirds by half of a game in the National League Central standings.
