WATCH: Rizzo comes up just short of homering on towering 2-run double

by - Senior Writer -

With a towering fly ball that practically got caught in the jet stream high above Wrigley Field, Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit a 2-run double with plenty of hang time on Saturday. The clutch 2-bagger came with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and increased the Cubs' lead to 5-2, as Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber scored on the play.

The powerful hack taken by Rizzo on the double had all of the makings of a home-run swing, but the ball fell just short of the bleachers in right-center. Caroming off the wall, the lofty hit was reminiscent of a punt in football, and a pair of Reds outfielders played the roles of the return men by having their eyes fixed to the sky while attempting to track the baseball in the air. Rizzo leads the Cubs with 40 RBI on the year, 11 of which have been accrued in the past week.
