WATCH: Rizzo tallies his 1,000th career hit, receives standing ovation |
CHICAGO — On June 9, 2011, Chicago Cubs first baseman, then a member of the San Diego Padres, tallied his first career hit against the Washington Nationals. On Saturday, Rizzo accrued his 1,000th career hit, and, as fate would have it, it came against the Nationals.
Hitting a single to right field off Nationals starter Tanner Roark in the third inning, Rizzo reached the 1,000-hit plateau and received a rousing ovation from the Wrigley faithful after doing so. Coming a little over a week after his 29th birthday, Rizzo's milestone hit came in the midst of his eighth big-league season.
