WATCH: Russell throttles solo bomb to straightaway center field

ST. LOUIS — Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell continued his hot start to the three-game series at the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.

After going 3-4 with three runs and one RBI in the series opener on Friday, Russell blasted a solo shot to straightaway center field in game two.

Perhaps as an example of foreshadowing, Russell alluded to his desire to more frequently hit for power on Friday, telling the media, "I definitely would like to hit for more power, obviously, but also (while) keeping the average up, as well. I feel like I need to contribute more."

Taking Cardinals hurler Carlos Martinez deep on a slider in the top of the fourth, Russell evened the score at 2-2. Traveling 409 feet at an exit speed of 103 miles per hour, the lined homer marked Russell's third long ball of the year.
