WATCH: Schwarber finishes off 13-pitch at-bat with 2-run blast |
A hard-fought 13-pitch at-bat for Chicago Cubs left fielder
Kyle Schwarber culminated in the slugger nailing a 2-run home run to provide the Cubs with some breathing room against the Washington Nationals on Friday. Coming in the top of the eighth, the 385-foot shot came on a fastball thrown by Nationals reliever Kyle Barraclough, who was worn down by Schwarber in the intense plate appearance.
Schwarber's sixth home run of the year, the dinger to left flew off the bat at 100 miles per hour and came on a full count. At one point during the at-bat, Schwarber fouled off five straight pitches. The jack plated center fielder Albert Almora Jr., who led off the inning with a single, and put the Cubs ahead 7-4. Barraclough remained in the game after that, but he was taken deep by Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant in the very next at-bat.
