WATCH: Schwarber hilariously threatens to flip off Arrieta

by - Senior Writer -

With former teammate Jake Arrieta in town to pitch against the Chicago Cubs, Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber had some fun when asked by the media about the current Philadelphia Phillies starter who pitched for the Cubs from 2013 to 2017.

"I'm just going to give him 'the bird,'" Schwarber jokingly said in his pregame press session while previewing what his first at-bat against Arrieta would be like. After the laughter subsided, Schwarber said, "No, I'll give him the head nod, and, then, we're off."

At Wrigley Field on Monday night, Arrieta made his first start against his old club since departing the Windy City to become a member of the Phillies' rotation.

"I'm sure that he'll be excited," Schwarber said of Arrieta, "and I know that we'll be excited, too, to get out there and play a good ballgame."

Although Arrieta won round one against Schwarber with a strikeout to lead off the bottom of the first, Schwarber one-upped the former Cubs workhorse with a triple in the bottom of the third. Soon afterward, Schwarber scored on an RBI single by Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo that put the Cubs up 1-0 on Arrieta and the Phillies.
