WATCH: Schwarber makes base runner pay with perfect throw from outfield |
PHILADELPHIA — Despite boasting one of the strongest, most accurate arms of any outfielder in the majors, Chicago Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber is consistently underestimated by opposing base runners. On Sunday, Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Roman Quinn became the latest to doubt Schwarber, and he paid the price by also becoming the latest victim of Schwarber's cannon of an arm.
Lining a shot to deep left field to lead off the bottom of the first, Quinn hustled around second base without even glancing at Schwarber. As a result, Quinn was gunned down at third base on a bullet of a throw from Schwarber. Even after initially misreading the hit, Schwarber was still able to field the ball and hum a dart to Cubs third baseman David Bote, who applied the tag on Quinn with ease. The one-hopper to third base that prevented a leadoff single marked Schwarber's National League-leading 11th assist. .@kschwarb12 retires the leadoff man. pic.twitter.com/dlWfgOyDEL
