WATCH: Victor Caratini channels Willson Contreras, makes perfect pickoff throw |
CHICAGO — Starting in place of the injured
Willson Contreras, Chicago Cubs catcher
Victor Caratini caught a baserunner strolling too far off the bag and made him pay on Wednesday. With a Contreras-like throw, Caratini fired a bullet to Cubs first baseman
Anthony Rizzo for the inning-ending out at Wrigley Field.
With two outs and runners on first and second in the top of the seventh, Jose Peraza of the Cincinnati Reds was picked off at first by Caratini. After gloving the laser thrown by Caratini, Rizzo applied a quick tag on Peraza as he attempted to slide back toward the bag. The Reds challenged the call, but the ruling stood.
