by - Senior Editor -

7:30 pm update: It's raining extremely hard right now with the tarp still on.

7:35 pm update: The grounds crew is on the field and about to remove the tarp. It will take probably 15-20 more minutes to get this game started up.

7:37 pm update: 10 minutes till game expected to start

Cubs officials say 7:45 pm will be the new start time. The game had an official delay of 30 minutes.

8:32 pm update: Another rain delay in St. Louis as the tarps are coming onto the field. There is lightning and heavy rain coming down.

8:38 pm update: Buster Olney reports that the heaviest part of the storm will hit in 15 minutes and the expectation is that they will play through it, but depends on how heavy it gets.

The tarp is coming off and the game will resume at 9 pm

The Cubs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then the tarps came out fast by the groundskeepers.

The game is now in a rain delay after 8 minutes of action as it has just started raining with dark clouds in the area. This really hard rain should last about ten minutes and then leave the area according to officials and reported by ESPN's Buster Olney.

This is not ideal news for veteran Jon Lester who was warmed ready to go into the game and now will have to wait it out for a while.

It was very interesting that they decided to start the game and not delay it for 15 minutes because the dark clouds were around in pre-game.
