Cubs News: Yu Darvish injury update |
CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs pitcher
Yu Darvish was scratched from his start on Sunday due to tightness in his right forearm. Cubs pitching coach
Tommy Hottovy spoke with reporters about it prior to Sunday's game and said that it was a precautionary move, although he did admit that it was somewhat concerning because of the part of the arm that was ailing.
In his pregame press conference on Monday, Cubs manager Joe Maddon told the media that Darvish is still scheduled to make his next start at Miller Park when the Cubs battle the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. Darvish declined to discuss the injury with the press on Monday, but Maddon downplayed any fears that the injury is serious. "For right now," Maddon said, "we'll just get him out there again, hopefully this weekend, and take it from there." Considering that Darvish has suffered from several serious arm afflictions in recent years, it is understandable that Maddon and Hottovy are playing it safe with the right-hander. “The fact that we have been concerned about the number of innings pitched from last year to this year jumping so dramatically, Tommy and I have been talking about that all year," Maddon said. "When you make dramatic jumps, you're always concerned, maybe not even about this year but about next year." Maddon on Darvish’s workload pic.twitter.com/oQwn7HVXm8
