Cubs News: Yu Darvish's agent fires back at A-Rod

by - Senior Editor -

It's starting to get a little testy.

Yu Darvish's agent Joel Wolfe spoke with The Athletic and fired back at controversial comments that ESPN commentator Alex Rodriguez said during Sunday's telecast.

"Darvish was right there on the top step in the dugout cheering on his teammates," he told reporter Patrick Mooney. "He wasn’t hiding out in Mesa at the spring-training complex or back home like A-Rod was when he was suspended."

One more great line from his agent.

"If this story had come from a credible journalist, we might have shown some concern, he said. "But it came from A-Rod, so we're paying it little attention."

If you missed the comments from A-Rod, he basically declared Darvish a cancer to the Cubs' 25-man roster and predicting it will take him two or three years to get the respect back from this teammates.

"It's gotten so bad around, they won't say this publicly, but, they let him take control of his own rehab which is scary," Rodriguez said. "They don't want to create anything that he can push back against. He will let the team know when he is ready. I'll let you know what that means to a clubhouse, you lose respect quickly. My concern for him cause he is a great young talent that it might take two, three, four years [respect] and you may not get that back."

Manager Joe Maddon heard the controversial comments and discussed them during his postgame interview as he wholeheartedly disagreed.

"I totally disagree with that," he said. "Everybody knows what’s going on. We know that there is an injury in there. We support his recovery. Everybody in there does. It’s unfortunate that it was relayed that way, but that’s not true.”
