Cubs News: Anthony Rizzo injury update |
The Cubs announced Wednesday that Anthony Rizzo's MRI showed 'rib head inflammation' on his left side of his back that was causing him spasms.
Cubs manager David Ross told reporters on Saturday afternoon that this star first baseman is doing well after doing some hitting on the field and taking grounders today. "Good workday for him," Ross said. "Felt good afterwards, all positives. We’ll wait to see how he reacts tomorrow. Still day-to-day, same status, but a step in the right direction today." The team will continue to treat and monitor his back. Rizzo told reporters earlier in the week that he doesn't think he will spend time on the injured list. "I don't think so. I've been able to manage it before. I'd rather miss a couple of games early if necessary than a big chunk. Victor Caratini has been in the spotlight of late as a viable backup at first base if Rizzo misses some time early in the season.
