Cubs News: Bryant on HR derby: "I don't really want to"

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant took part in the 2015 All-Star Home Run Derby last season and knows that it can be demanding physically and mentally taxing on the participants.

"All I know is it was tough. It was very exhausting," Bryant said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "And I don't know if I'd want to do it again. But if [the pitchers] want to, we'll let them do it. I don't really want to."

Kris Bryant has not been invited to participate in the event yet, but it appears that he wants to take the more relaxed approach to the festivities.

"I enjoy watching the home run derby. Growing up I watched it all the time," Bryant said. "It's very entertaining. I'll sit on the grass, do the whole bring-the-Gatorade thing. But I don't really want to do it."

Bryant is batting .273 with 15 homers, 45 RBIs and a .360 on-base percentage this season. For his career, he is a .275 hitter with 41 home runs and 144 RBIs.
