Cubs announce Game 1 starter for World Series

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Veteran Cubs pitcher Jon Lester will start game 1 of the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.

Lester was 19-5 with 2.44 ERA with 197 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP this season. In three postseason starts in 21 innings, he gave up only 14 hits, two runs, two walks, and 14 strikeouts going 2-0. He has been a stud in the postseason for the Cubs.

In three World Series starts [Red Sox] in 21 innings, he is 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA giving up only one run.

The Cubs have not announced the rest of the pitching rotation for the World Series, but Jake Arrieta could be in line for Game 2 because of his low work rate the last week. The rotation will more than likely be Lester, Arrieta, Kyle Hendricks, and John Lackey.

Lester will be opposed by Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber of the Indians.
