Cubs are closing in on deal with Yankees for Chapman

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

According to multiple reports including the Chicago Tribune and ESPN the Cubs are close to a deal with the Yankees for left-hander closer Aroldis Chapman for Gleyber Torres.

The 19-year-old is the Cubs' top infield prospect and was scratched from his Sunday game for High-A Myrtle Beach. He is hitting .275 with a .359 on-base percentage an 9 home runs and 23 doubles in 94 games with the Pelicans.

The deal could involve more players and could also hinge on Chapman, who will be a free agent after this season, agreeing to an extension.
