Cubs News: Dexter Fowler will not play in All-Star game

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs centerfielder Dexter Fowler made his first all-star game in 2016 with a sensational first half with the Cubs as the Cubs got off to a historic franchise start to the season.

However, Fowler has been on the disabled list with a hamstring injury the last few weeks and told reporters on Saturday afternoon that he will not risk playing in the event. He will go to San Diego to take part in the festivities with his six teammates but will not play. Starling Marte and Jay Bruce will replace Fowler and injured Yoenis Cespedes for the National League.

Fowler played in a rehab assignment Friday night at Class A South Bend and went 0-2 with two walks. He will continue his rehab assignment after the All-Star break.
