by - Senior Editor -

Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel left the sixth inning with cramping in his right hand on Thursday night.

Maddon called the athletic trainer twice to check on Hammel who walked a batter on four straight pitches to lead off the sixth inning.

Hammel was visibly upset when he walked off the field and into the home dugout.

He went five innings on 80 pitches giving up three hits, two runs, six strikeouts, and only one walk.
