Indians coach texted Epstein about Schwarber's injury

by - Senior Editor -

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona is known to have many friends around major league baseball including Cubs President Theo Epstein. Both of them worked closely together while they were both in Boston many years ago.

Before game three of the World Series, Francona actually texted Epstein about young slugger Kyle Schwarber.

“He texted me, ‘You guys should really be a little more cautious with Schwarber and his knee — I don’t think he needs to play again this series.’" Epstein said via 670 The Score.

Was he scared of Schwarber's power? Was he concerned about Schwarber's future? Was he just being funny? I guess we won't know. Regardless, Schwarber ended up not being cleared by the doctors before the crucial game 3. However, Schwarber did get one pinch-hit at-bat but popped out to the second baseman in the 8th inning of the Cubs 1-0 loss.
