Cubs News: Schwarber officially cleared by doctors

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber had been waiting on medical clearance during the beginning stages of spring training to resume his catching duties. Good news for Schwarber and the Cubs as it was announced on Wednesday that Schwarber was officially cleared by the medical staff during Day 1 of training camp and will participate in catching drills with the other catchers.

The Cubs have decided to let him squat 1-2 times a week as they are still keeping it cautious with his previous knee injury. He will be used as a third catcher this season.

“If I can do it, I want to do it,” Schwarber said Tuesday. “I still have the passion for catching. If I can do it, I’d like to do it, but if it’s not medically smart, don’t risk it.”
