Cubs News: Seiya Suzuki rehab update

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross told reporters Wednesday that right fielder Seiya Suzuki is progressing well with the left oblique injury that has sidelined him this spring and all of the World Baseball Classic.

Ross said that he has been cleared to take normal batting practice and will begin light baserunning.

"Seiya's doing really well," Ross said. "It is a unique injury, and you try to manage that as best you can. All positive from his standpoint. He feels good. All the stuff he's been able to ramp up -- the dry swings to the tee to today hitting -- it all went really well up to today. So we'll continue to progress him as they feel like the plan and his feelings kind of work towards getting him fully back."

Despite the good progress on his rehab, there is still no timetable for his return. He is likely to start the season on the injured list.
