by -

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs and left-handed pitcher Kyle Ryan have agreed to terms on a 2019 major league contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Chicago’s 40-man roster now stands at 40 players.

Ryan, 27, went 1-2 with a 2.86 ERA (21 ER/66.0 IP) in 22 appearances (eight starts, 14 in relief) for Triple-A Iowa last season after agreeing to a minor league deal with the Cubs last January. The southpaw has spent parts of four seasons in the majors with the Detroit Tigers (2014-17), going 8-6 with a 3.87 ERA (55 ER/128.0 IP) in 86 career big league appearances, all but seven in relief.

The 6-foot-5 Ryan was originally selected by the Tigers in the 12th round of the 2010 Draft out of Auburndale (Fla.) High School. He has gone 45-51 with a 3.64 ERA (353 ER/872.2 IP) in 209 minor league appearances (139 starts, 70 in relief) covering nine seasons.
