Report: Outfielder granted release from Cubs, signs minor league deal with Dodgers

by - Senior Editor -

Former Chicago Cubs outfielder Ben DeLuzio, a 28-year-old outfielder, signed a minor-league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to multiple reports, including Robert Murray of FanSided.com.

DeLuzio spent the entire spring training with the Chicago Cubs before being granted his release on Thursday morning.

The Miami Marlins originally drafted the Florida State alum in Round 3 of the 2013 draft.

By signing with the Dodgers, DeLuzio will report to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he can showcase his talents and potentially earn a call-up to the major leagues.

The Dodgers have a deep and talented outfield, but injuries and performance issues can create opportunities for him.
