WATCH: Ian Happ smacks first Cubs homer of 2023

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ smacked a solo homer on his ninth pitch of the at-bat to put the Cubs up 1-0 against the rival Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

The home run came off Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff, who had been pitching a gem up until that point. Woodruff had held the Cubs to just two hits through the first five innings and had struck out six batters. But in the sixth inning, with two outs, Happ got ahold of a pitch and sent it sailing over the right field basket at Wrigley Field.

Happ's home run was especially impressive, considering the circumstances. With the count at 3-2 and two outs, he was able to stay focused and deliver a powerful swing that sent the ball out of the park. It was a reminder of Happ's potential as a hitter and a key moment in the young season for the Cubs.

Overall, Happ's home run on Saturday was a key moment in the game and an important reminder of his potential as a hitter. As the Cubs look to continue their strong start to the season, they will need more clutch hits like this from Happ and the rest of their lineup.
