Cubs News: Anthony Rizzo donates 3.5 million to Children's hospital

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs slugger Anthony Rizzo in one of the top players in major league baseball and a great community representative off-the-field.

Rizzo presented a $3.5 million check from his foundation to Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago on Tuesday. The money will go to help many families and children at the hospital for decades to come.

“To be able to give back and do this type of work is so much bigger than winning a World Series,” Rizzo said via the Chicago-Sun Times.

The 18th-floor waiting room has been named "The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation Waiting Room."

"This means a lot to me,” Rizzo said. "I remember sitting with my mom saying we were going to do this 10 years ago. And you know, this is just a little step in our mission."

“I believe that an individual does not battle cancer alone, his or her entire family does. That’s why we’ve designated this money to go directly to help families on the front lines," Rizzo said in a statement.

Congrats to Rizzo on making a difference in the city of Chicago with his athletic and charitable endeavors.
