Cubs News: Arrieta ruled out pitching early in NLDS

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta will not pitch during his scheduled Sunday start and will not pitch in either Game 1 or Game 2 of the NLDS against the Washington Nationals.

"Primarily to give his leg more rest," Maddon said about the decision for him to rest. "A real healthy Jake pitching like he can is very important. Part of the deal would be to gain more time, to make Jake well, then push him to the latter part of the rotation.

Arrieta is fine with some much-needed rest after his hamstring injury he suffered on Sept. 4.

"Anytime you're in a game and put a hitter in there it's hard to take a step back," Arrieta said to reporters. "It's nice to have a few days and completely do nothing but work with the trainers and do some stuff."

Arrieta looks like he could be headed to a game three start against the Nationals at Wrigley Field.

In 2017, Arrieta has a 14-10 record with 3.53 ERA with 163 strikeouts and 1.22 WHIP.
