Cheap travel deals for upcoming Cubs games

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs fans wanting to head to Wrigley Field from the Southeast are in luck on some discount flight fares.

There is an awesome round trip fare from Atlanta to Chicago to O’Hare coming up for the Sunday game with Milwaukee and the series with the Mets next week. On United, it’ll cost you just $81 round trip non-stop if you leave on Saturday, September 9 in the afternoon from Atlanta and return any time through the following Friday.

You wouldn’t be able to watch the game on Saturday, but you can catch Sunday’s game against Milwaukee by leaving Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. There isn’t a game on Monday, giving you a chance to see the city. The Cubs return to action on Tuesday against the Mets, and you can choose to go back to Atlanta anytime during the week and still catch this fare out of Atlanta.

This trip is on United. You’re allowed a carry on free, and it’s $25 for a checked bag each way. Pack light and you’re all set to see the Cubs.

If you have a college football game to attend on Saturday or you just can’t leave the TV, you can take Spirit out of Atlanta on Sunday morning to Chicago for $86 round trip. You can catch the Cubs on Sunday afternoon and any of the other games during the week with the Mets and return by Friday for that fare. Spirit charges for carry-ons and checked bags, though. You’ll end up with a more expensive ticket with this trip than leaving the previous day with United.

From New York to Chicago there are also great fares starting Friday. Leave LaGuardia at 9:55 am in the morning on Friday, and you’re in Chicago by 11:35 am at O’Hare. That’s plenty of time to get to the stadium for the rare Friday night 8:05 p.m. start against Milwaukee. Return the next week anytime for a total of $120 round trip plus baggage fees, which you do need to take into account on Spirit.

You’re almost always going to find the fares cheaper from a major airport like Atlanta to Chicago. If you’re in Nashville, you can save a bundle by flying to Milwaukee and taking the short drive back to Chicago. You can find a fare of $276 round trip to Milwaukee as opposed to $576 to Chicago from Friday to Monday out of Nashville on American. Milwaukee’s General Mitchell Airport is on the South side of Milwaukee, and it’s an easy hour and a half drive to the game from there. Put all your items in your carry-on, and you’re done. Otherwise there’s a $25 charge for a checked bag each way.

Here are some other fares to Chicago this weekend:

Orlando to Chicago on Spirit non-stop $120

Los Angeles to Chicago on Spirit non-stop $169

If you’re in Las Vegas and looking for a last-minute trip to see the Cubs play in Pittsburgh this week, there’s a very nice round trip fare out of Las Vegas for $189 on Spirit. Rates to travel to Pittsburgh are generally at least $450 from any western city this week, so this fare is an oasis in the Las Vegas desert.

Tell us when you’re headed to Chicago and where you’re headed from, and we’ll feature those cities in the future and hopefully help you save a few dollars so you can have money for better seats.

Hurry now because these prices won't last long. All of these deals can be found by typing your flight destination at google.com/flights.
