Cubs reportedly interested in veteran closer |
The trade deadline is approaching very rapidly as teams are scrambling to try to improve their ballclub.
One of the teams trying to upgrade their pitching is the first-place Chicago Cubs. They have been connected to Orioles reliever Zach Britton since he is on the trade block. According to a report by MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Cub are also interested in Mets closer Jeurys Familia. The cubs are thought to have Britton near the top of their wish list. But they, too, are considering Familia. For the season, Familia has a 4-4 record with a 2.88 ERA, 43 strikeouts, and 17 saves. The Mets closer would certainly be a welcome bullpen addition with the Cubs as he would help with the injury-prone Brandon Morrow. Another report has the Cubs out of the running for Familia with the Oakland A's as the frontrunner. I guess we will just have to see how it all pans out as we head near the trade deadline. Mets are working to finish a trade of closer Jeurys Familia. Oakland among the team with interest; Cubs not involved.
