Cubs News: Kris Bryant: "Who wouldn't want Bryce Harper on their team?"

by - Senior Editor -

The Bryce Harper to Cubs rumors have been running rampant this offseason and will continue until he signs with a new team in 2019.

His best friend and Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was asked by the media at the Cubs Convention about Harper possibly playing with the North Siders one day.

“I don’t make those decisions, and I don’t think I ever could make those decisions,” Bryant said. “But who wouldn’t want Bryce Harper on their team? He’s 25, and six years in the league he’s a superstar. He would bring a lot to any team. That will be an interesting to follow next offseason.”

In 2017, Harper hit .319 with 29 homers, 87 RBIs, and had an impressive .413 on-base percentage. In his MLB career, he has batted .285 with 150 home runs and 421 RBIs. He was named rookie of the year in 2012 and won the MVP award in 2015.

Bryant was asked about his new contract that was $10.85 million which set a record for first-time arbitration-eligible players.

“I don’t look at money records,” Bryant said. “The records on the field are way more important because when you’re doing that, you’re helping the team. It really is the cherry on top when you get paid millions of dollars to do something you have loved since you were four years old. I feel so grateful and so honored to be with this team.”
