Cubs News: Bryant named finalist for NL MVP |
Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was named a finalist for the National League MVP on Monday evening. He is the first Cubs player to finish in the top three of the MVP voting since Derrek Lee in 2005 and has the chance to be the first Cubs player to win the award since Sammy Sosa in 1998.
Bryant hit .292 with 39 homers, 102 runs, 121 RBIs, and had an on-base percentage of .385 this season. In the 2016 postseason, he hit .308 with three homers, five doubles, eight RBIs and had an on-base percentage of .400. In two seasons in the majors, he has batted .284 with 65 homers and 201 RBIs. The other two finalists were Daniel Murphy and Corey Seager. Bryant is the frontrunner to win his first MVP award in only his second season in the big leagues. He has already won the Hank Aaron won in the National League for being the top offensive player.
