Cubs agree to deal with Tommy La Stella

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are busying signing their players before they have to deal with an arbitration case.

Cubs infielder Tommy '3 AM" La Stella has agreed to a one-year deal worth $950,000 on Friday according to multiple reports. He is such a valuable member of the Cubs because he is one of the very few players that can watch a game for four hours and then have a quality pinch-hit in a crucial situation with the game on the line. The guy can just hit.

In 2017 in 125 at-bats, he hit .288 with five homers, 22 RBIs, and .389 on-base percentage. In a pinch-hitting role, he was 9-for-30 with 10 walks. For his short MLB career, he is batting .264 with nine homers and 75 RBIs.

The Cubs have signed Justin Wilson, Kyle Hendricks, and now La Stella to one-year deals with only Justin Grimm, Addison Russell, and Kris Bryant left to go on their arbitration-eligible players. Theo Epstein has never had a player have an arbitration hearing under his watch for the Cubs.
