Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Dan Serafini has been found guilty of the 2021 murder of his father-in-law.
The incident, which took place in Lake Tahoe, went unsolved for two years before Serafini was arrested and charged. According to NBC News, Serafini was convicted of both murder and attempted murder in connection with a targeted attack on his wife’s parents. “A former MLB pitcher was found guilty of murder and attempted murder of his wife’s parents in a 2021 Lake Tahoe attack, where he waited inside their home with a gun in what prosecutors say was a financially motivated killing," NBC News reported. "Danny Serafini, 51, faces in life in prison after a jury convicted him in the murder of his father-in-law, Robert Gary Spohr, 70, according to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office. His mother-in-law, Wendy Woods, survived the shooting but died by suicide a year later." A former first-round draft pick, Serafini had a journeyman career pitching for six MLB teams, including the Cubs, Twins, Pirates, Reds, Padres, and Rockies.
