Cubs have fired Chris Bosio |
The Chicago Cubs have fired pitching coach Chris Bosio on Saturday according to multiple reports including USA Today.
Bosio had been with the Cubs the last six seasons. One of the reasons for his departure is probably the horrid job that the bullpen did in the postseason for the Cubs. The team probably needed a new voice to try to shake things up in 2018. "Rest assured Joe will have every coach back that he wants back," Theo Epstein said during Friday's press conference. Bosio is a well-respected pitching coach as he helped Jake Arrieta become the ace that he is and also contributed in helping Kyle Hendricks win the NL ERA leader award in 2016. However, Bosio will land on his feet with another pitching coach job in the major leagues, possibly in Minnesota. One likely candidate to replace Bosio for the Cubs is Joe Maddon's former pitching coach Jim Hickey in Tampa Bay from 2006-2014. He left the organization after the season and could wind up reunited with Maddon in the Windy City. Another candidate that could be on the radar is former Nationals pitching coach Mike Maddux who was let go with the housecleaning the team did this week with Dusty Baker and his entire staff.
