Cubs make decision on Drew Smyly

The Chicago Cubs have decided to decline the $10 million mutual option for veteran pitcher Drew Smyly, according to multiple reports on Saturday.

MLB insider Jon Heyman first reported it.

Smyly will still get $2.5 million as part of his buyout.

It is still possible that the Cubs will re-sign Smyly later in the offseason, possibly at a much lower rate.

In 2024, he had a 0-4 record with a 3.84 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in mostly middle relief action.
