Cubs News: Kris Bryant headed for huge salary increase in 2018

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have a nice nucleus of positional players including third baseman Kris Bryant.

However, it will be more expensive to keep Bryant who will be arbitration-eligible for the first time in his major league career.

Bryant is expected to receive a salary increase of $7.85 million from $1.05 million to $8.9 million according to MLBTradeRumors.com. That's a pretty hefty raise for the former MVP award winner and announcement could come as soon as Friday on his new salary.

In 2017, Bryant hit .295 with 29 homers, 111 runs, 95 walks, 73 RBIs, and had an on-base percentage of .409. He should have a huge year in 2018 as he matures even more as a bonafide star with the Cubs.

The Cubs' other unsigned arbitration players include shortstop Addison Russell, infielder Tommy La Stella, pitcher Kyle Hendricks, and relievers Justin Wilson and Justin Grimm. Look for all of these players to get sizeable raises from the Cubs.
