Cubs News: Maddon discusses blog post about Russell's abuse allegations |
Chicago Cubs manager
Joe Maddon spoke with the media before Wednesday night's pivotal game with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Maddon shared that he finally had read the blog post about the abuse allegations involving Addison Russell written by his ex-wife Melissa. “Domestic violence is horrible, absolutely it is. By reading that, you feel her pain," he said. It's horrible to think what that lady's gone through. Absolutely, But I don't know enough about the other side. So I'm waiting for the full report to come out then we can all draw conclusions at that point. At the end of the day, there is really nothing I am able to do. This is in the hands of MLB and the players union. Period.” Maddon said that Russell sent him a good luck text and is hoping for a Cubs win. "He just wanted to encourage us to play well," Maddon said. "He’s watching. Go get em. Good luck. I’m with you guys. That kind of stuff." MLB is currently investigating the allegations and has interviewed several witnesses according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal.
