Mervis not nervous.

Chicago Cubs rookie first baseman Matt Mervis came up big for his team on Sunday, smacking an RBI single in the fourth inning to put the Cubs within one run at 2-1 against the Miami Marlins.

The opposite-field single demonstrated Mervis' ability to use the whole field and come through in key situations.

The hit was a key moment in the game, as the Cubs had been struggling with runners in scoring position, going 0-6 prior to Mervis' clutch at-bat.

Mervis now has two RBIs in two career games.

If you count minor league action, Mervis has 148 RBIs in 163 games since the start of the 2022 season.
