It seems nearly set in stone that after Josh Donaldson decides where to spend the next chapter of his career, the Cubs will get aggressive in trying to trade Kris Bryant to a team with a fertile farm system that is also looking for an upgrade at third base. Full Story »
This team was worse than the 2019 team the minute they decided not to pay Maddon what he was worth. Then they got a little worse by letting Hamels slip away, especially with no ace replacement in mind. They're getting even worse letting Castellanos slip away. If you trade KB, the team gets much worse. (The same for Contreras, Rizzo, and Javy. Probably also true for Schwarber realistically.)
Its not that they just haven't done anything to improve; they're actively getting worse. Even the minor league deals they've signed have been uninspiring to say the least. I don't know if I've ever been more disappointed, and that includes the run of 5th place finishes and 100 loss seasons.
