To me you can't deny the numbers you've quoted, so what could it be for such a drastic turn around? I think it may all be related to the mental factor of the game. It's as if the mental concept of team has been forgotten and it's all about personal success. We've had numerous chances to score, men in scoring position with less than two outs, yet we can't even get them to 3rd base. Get back to the basics, know the situation and what your job is when you come to the plate. Give yourself up to move the runner up, go to the opposite field. With all this shifting going on with every team the batter has a huge hole to hit the ball the other way yet they continue to fall into the rut of hitting to the shift. Why not try to go to the other way during batting practice rather than seeing how many you can hit out of the park. It's called batting practice for a reason, it's not a homerun derby.

When you're more concerned with individualism your not helping the team, some of this has to fall on the hitting coach, but you can be the best hitting coach around, but if the players think they know best well this is the result. Loss after loss.

If the average American worker didn't listen to his or her boss they would not be around long. Unfortunately ball players don't get fired or fined for poor performance, they may get a day or two on the bench but that's about as far as it goes.

Maybe if you start getting into their pocket they may wise up and see just how lucky they are to have the job they have. Not one player is worth the money they make. We can thank free agency for the inflated salaries. So personal performance and stats is first on their mind to increase their value. They need to be remember who pays their insane salaries, the fans. As a fan I'm sick of their arrogance and self serving attitude. Something needs to change and change quickly.

This might be your most insane column ever. Either come out and admit you hate Russell and want him off the team or move on because the constant innuendos about how he has hurt everything from the pitching staff to the infield to a hundred other things is getting tiresome and frankly it is beneath you.

What the Cubs are experiencing is called a slump. Teams get them about 5 times a season. I will repeat to you what I've told you 10 times now, they are not going to win every game so get over it.

I wasn't looking for Russell to be the problem, but the "slump" as you call it had a very specific start date, which just happened to coincide with Russell's return. I think Russell has done well the last few days, and while he was never my favorite Cub, I'd stop far short of saying I hate him. I do not dispute for a minute that players slump, but what I do find odd is that four of the hottest starters in MLB all decide to take leave of their skills at exactly the same time.

It happens all the time. Talk to a White Sox fan. Talk to last September Cubs.

I thought the article was unique based on the date combined with those interesting and in-depth stats.

Do I think that Russell impacts Lester's pitching performances where he is getting smashed as of late? No. Obviously, he was going to fall back from his MLB-best ERA start.

Does Russell in the lineup neg. affect team morale? Possibly but I think they mostly like him. However, I'm not in the clubhouse to know for sure.

More than likely, if he was such a problem chemistry wise and was a team killer on production -- KB, Rizzo, Lester, or Baez would have told mgt. and he would be gone.

I said I wasn't calling him a jinx. It is possible that he has subconsciously affected the team though.
