NBC Sports Chicago signs veteran on-air personality David Kaplan to multi-year extension

‘Kap’ to continue role as host of “SportsTalk Live,” along with expanding cross-platform responsibilities for key network initiatives beginning in October 2019.

In a bit of a surprise David Kaplan has decided to remain with NBC Sports Chicago rather than follow his beloved Cubs to the Marquee Network being launched by the Chicago Cubs next season.

According to a story on the web site for NBC Sports Chicago, Kaplan said: “I’ve been exceptionally blessed to work at an amazing place, with an extremely-talented staff, in the greatest sports city in the world,” said Kaplan. “I was taught a long time ago from my late father, ‘Don’t run from happiness.’ I’m thrilled to be a part of the NBC Sports family for a long time to come.”

It is rumored that Sinclair Broadcasting is doing the hiring and not the Cubs. Sinclair is known for pinching pennies and this may or may not have had something to do with Kaplan's decision. To date there have been no announcements regarding any on air talent or management for the new network.
