Field of Dreams

Well, it only took 30 years (literally), but I finally saw Field of Dreams last night for the first time ever. Dan ranked this as one of the best baseball movies of all time, and neither he or Tony could believe that I'd never seen it.
So what did I think?
I liked it, although the plot isn't at all what I expected. It was kind of like a baseball version of "Ghost." It was more supernatural than plausible realty, but I did like the way they incorporated actual players from the past- kind of like fantasy meets history. I guess I'd have probably enjoyed it even more If I had know going in, that the players were ghosts, and not just kids (human type, not apparition) that wanted to play on the field to fulfill their dreams.
It definitely had meaning to me though- Missing my dad and playing catch with him, the day I got to spend a few hours on the field for a shot at joining the Cubs (even though I knew I wasn't near good enough), that feeling of making dumb mistakes and falling short in life (at times) and wanting a shot at redemption. Overall, it was a good movie though- I'm sure I'll watch it again someday.

Congratulations!
Next Tony and I would like to introduce you to a fax machine. I think you'll be shocked that you can send someone a letter immediately after you dial them up by phone, wait until you hear their machine rapidly clicking, and then you feed your letter into the rollers to transmit. It's Crazy!

We just added Hulu back to our Roku last night (due to my fricken Dish box going out for the second time in a year. (Guy is here now replacing it.) Anyway, we wanted to watch Field of Dreams and Hulu had it, so we re-subscribed. I ended up adding Starz as well, as they have a lot of older movies that I wanted to see again. No one Has "A League of Their Own," but I'll look for Bull Durham and the Natural sometime soon.
Tony, can you please reply here with a link to Dan's article about the baseball movies so that I have that list? Thanks.

OH MY GOD! what is wrong with you and Ken?
A League of Their Own is another classic and in fact the first 15-20 minutes of the movie with Jon Lovitz is some of the funniest stuff ever.

Marianne and I watched a good movie last night- not a "baseball" movie, but a lot of references to baseball. It was called "Fences," with Denzel Washington.

I looked last night- League of Their Own isn't on Hulu or Starz, and the last I checked, it wasn't on Netflix.

Watched Bull Durham last night, but neither of us were impressed. It reminded me of a minor league version of "Major League," except not nearly as funny. Marianne thought the same.
