CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Clint Frazier from the 10-day injured list. Additionally, outfielder Michael Hermosillo was transferred back to the 10-day injured list from the injured list and left-handed pitcher Brandon Hughes was returned to Triple-A Iowa.

Frazier, 27, appeared in 10 games for the Cubs before he was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 22 (retroactive to April 20) with appendicitis. While completing a rehab assignment from May 17-26, the righthanded hitter owned a .148 batting average (4-for-27) with two doubles and two RBI in eight games at Triple-A Iowa.

After signing a one-year major league contract with the Cubs December 1 of last year, Frazier broke camp with the team and compiled a .143 batting average (3-for-21) with two runs scored, two doubles and two walks before his injured list stint.

Frazier last season made his second-straight Opening Day roster with the Yankees and batted .186 (34-for-183) with 20 runs, nine doubles, five home runs, 15 RBI and 32 walks in 66 games, reaching safely in 43 contests. He missed half of the campaign after he landed on the 10-day injured list, July 2, with vertigo.

The five-foot, 11-inch Frazier owns a .236 batting average (172-for-728) with 43 doubles, five triples, 29 home runs and 97 RBI in 238 career major league games with the New York Yankees (2017-21) and Cubs (2022). He has posted a career .923 OPS and a .261 average (42-for-161) with runners in scoring position, while predominantly seeing time in right field (104 games, 90 starts) and left field (103 games, 86 starts). All told, he has a .976 career fielding percentage (7 E/296 TC) in the outfield.

Originally selected by Cleveland in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2013 Draft out of Loganville (Ga.) High School, Frazier was acquired by the Yankees at the 2016 trade deadline with pitchers J.P. Feyereisen, Ben Heller and Justus Sheffield for pitcher Andrew Miller.

Hughes, 26, has posted a 2.57 ERA (2 ER/7.0 IP) in five outings out of the bullpen for Chicago this season. In his major league debut, May 17 vs. Pittsburgh, became the first pitcher since 1893 to record at least five outs in his MLB debut with every out via the strikeout.

Hermosillo, 27, was originally added to the 10-day injured list on May 8 with a left quadriceps strain and then transferred to the injured list on May 18. Prior to that, he was hitting .071 (2-for-28) with one double, two RBI and four walks in 17 games for Chicago this season.
