Cubs News: Brandon Morrow rehab update

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are playing well down the stretch even without their hard-throwing closer Brandon Morrow.

The 34-year old has been sidelined with a biceps injury since July 15 as the Cubs have been using a closer by committee approach mainly thrusting Pedro Strop in the starring role.

Cubs pitching coach Jim Hickey updated his rehab status on the Mully & Haugh Show on Wednesday morning.

"You'll see Brandon probably later, sometime in the middle of September," he said. "The key with Morrow is simply to have him ready and then have him fresh all the way throughout the playoffs. That's the plan with him."

For the season, Morrow has an impressive 1.47 ERA, 22 saves, and a 1.08 WHIP.

The Cubs will take their time with Morrow because he is one of the most important pieces on the team for the postseason. Currently, he is just throwing off flat ground but they hope to have him doing some bullpen sessions soon.
