Pedro is in his fifth season with the Cubs after he was acquired from Baltimore in a four-player deal, July 2, 2013 … has pitched in all or parts of eight major league seasons with Texas (2009-11), Baltimore (2011-13) and the Cubs, posting 116 holds, nine saves and a 3.23 ERA (122 ER/339.2 IP) in 376 relief appearances … Agreed to a 2018 contract extension with a club option for 2019 on February 24, 2017 … Since joining the Cubs in July of 2013, he has posted a 2.68 ERA (63 ER/211.1 IP) with 254 strikeouts and six saves in 232 outings ... his .173 opponent batting average during that span ranks second in the N.L., trailing only Aroldis Chapman (.150) … His 84 holds are the most in Cubs franchise history, surpassing Carlos Marmol's 82 holds from 2006-13 … Among Cubs relievers all-time with at least 100 games pitched, he ranks first in opponents batting average, third in ERA and second in strikeouts per nine innings (10.82) … With 377 strikeouts in 339.2 major league innings, he has averaged 9.99 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched ... has walked 157 batters … Pitched for the Dominican Republic in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, going 3-0 in six relief appearances … did not allow a run in 6.2 innings pitched (3 H, 0 BB, 7 SO) … Has gone 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA (3 ER/13.0 IP) in 16 postseason appearances with the Orioles (2012) and Cubs (2015-16) ... his 14 postseason appearances with the Cubs ranks second in team history … Was named a Pacific Coast League All-Star with Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2010 … Spoke with Texas prospects during the organization's trip to the Rangers Dominican training academy in 2010 … Following the 2007 season, was ranked by Baseball America as Colorado's ninth-best prospect … Converted to a pitcher after batting .208 in 161 games as an infielder in Colorado's organization from 2003-05 … Signed as a non-drafted free agent by Colorado in 2002 … Played amateur baseball in his native San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.
