Harry Caray statue vandalized at Little Cubs Field |
Sad news to report as vandals have damaged the Harry Caray statue at the Little Cubs Field located in Freeport.
The statue was beaten up badly with a baseball bat as one of his arms was knocked off. According to a rep named Denny Garkey with Little Cubs field, a couple of kids defaced the Cubs artwork. "They took it upon themselves to grab a bat and hit Harry Caray's statue over by the first base line, knock his arm off. Knocked his microphone off," he said in an interview with WREX.com. "It is disappointing. Kids do what they do but Little Cubs Field has become an icon, not just to Freeport but to the whole region," he said. The vandals should be ashamed of themselves but hopefully, the tourist attraction will be up again in the very near future for people to visit.
