
WATCH: Fan critically hurt after plunging from stands at Cubs-Pirates game |
A frightening incident unfolded during the seventh inning of Wednesday night’s game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs.
A man fell approximately 22 feet from the stands to the warning track below. The game was paused as players were visibly shaken by what had occurred. Emergency personnel quickly arrived on the scene, and the man was placed on a stretcher before being transported to Allegheny General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. They worked on him for about five minutes before he left the field. The Pirates released the following statement on what happened. “Pittsburgh EMS, as well as the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and other PNC Park personnel reacted and responded immediately and administered care. No further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.” Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen posted the following to express his concern on the horrific incident. “Truly hate what happened tonight. Cant help but think about that guy, his family and friends. I pray tonight for him,” he posted after the game. “Let us think about his loved ones and hug our families a little tighter tonight. I hope he pulls thru. May God Bless you all.” Cubs manager Craig Counsell had the following to say about it after the game. "Hope the gentleman is OK. Thinking about his family and him right now," Counsell said. "Obviously scary, we kind of saw it. Didn't see it happen but saw it out there after the play and just hope everything turns out OK."
