Cubs News: Jason Heyward injury update

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward is currently on the 10-day disabled list with a sprained finger on his right hand.

According to multiple reports on Wednesday night, Heyward will head out for assignment with the Single-A South Bend Cubs to start in a rehab game on Thursday. No word yet if it is just one or a couple of games down there.

Heyward is currently batting .253 with three homers and 17 RBI in 28 games this season. For his career, Heyward is batting .262 with 107 homers, 418 RBI, and has an on-base percentage of .346.

The Cubs are not in a huge hurry to rush him back before he is 100% healthy with the emergence of Ian Happ and his versatility in the outfield.
