PHILADELPHIA — Making his first start at Citizens Bank Park since being traded by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2015, Chicago Cubs hurler Cole Hamels received a standing ovation from the crowd on hand for Tuesday's Cubs-Phillies game. An all-time great Phillies pitcher, Hamels competed for Philadelphia from 2006 to 2015, winning both the NLCS MVP and World Series MVP awards during the Phillies' World Series-winning campaign in 2008.

Hamels was traded by the Phillies to the Texas Rangers, with whom he pitched from the summer of 2015 until he was traded to the Cubs in the summer of 2018. However, as a member of the Rangers, an American League squad, Hamels never toed the rubber in a road game against the Phillies. In typical Hamels fashion, he was very stoic while being showered with applause and cheers, with the fans showing their support for their favorite team's former ace.

Update: Hamels later received another rousing ovation when he stepped up to the dish for his first plate appearance at Citizens Bank Park since 2015. The left-hander struck out looking in the top of the third.
