WATCH: Hendricks hits bloop single to drive in go-ahead run |
Even the usually stone-faced Kyle Hendricks could not help but crack a smile when he skied a popup that fell perfectly in between three pursuing defenders for an RBI single on Tuesday. Providing the Cubs with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the second, Hendricks put the Cubs up 2-1 on the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field.
The bloop single hit to shallow left-center by the ace pitcher was skied off the bat with two outs and runners on the corners, and it allowed Cubs right fielder Carlos Gonzalez to score against his former team with ease. The windy conditions at the Friendly Confines likely played a part in the Colorado defenders being unable to catch it. Regardless, Hendricks was caught on camera boasting a wry smile after giving himself an early lead to work with.
